Privacy: Bring Your Own Key (optional)
Voice dictation works without any setup: your audio is transcribed by ElevenLabs on our account and discarded after transcription (we have opted out of model training — see our privacy policy). If you would rather your audio never pass through a provider we contract, add a free Groq API key below. With a key on file, transcription runs on your own Groq account instead — effectively opting out of our processing. Signing up with Groq is free, takes 2 minutes, and doesn’t need a credit card.
How to get a free Groq API key — 3 steps
- Go to console.groq.com and sign up (Google / GitHub / email all work).
- Open API Keys and click Create API Key. Give it a name like “Shuovo” and copy the value (starts with
gsk_). - Paste it above and click Save key. That’s it — your dictation now runs on your own Groq quota and no longer goes to ElevenLabs.
Groq's free tier covers many hours of transcription per day — effectively unlimited for individual use. If you ever exceed the free tier, Groq will ask you to add a payment method on their console; we never see that bill. You can remove the key at any time; dictation then switches back to ElevenLabs on our account. For the strictest setting, you can also enable Zero Data Retention in your own Groq console.
Your key is encrypted with AES-256-GCM before it touches our database. We only use it to forward your audio to Groq.

Shuovo remembers the words you type, the shortcuts you create, and the dictation spellings you set for names. Subscribers have these synced across their devices so they survive a reinstall. You can manage and export them here — changes sync to your phone on its next connection.
